About North Whidbey Fire and Rescue

The fire district's service area, on North Whidbey Island, is predominately rural and surrounds the City of Oak Harbor and NAS Whidbey Island. The district operates out of 7 fire stations, providing fire suppression, emergency medical, marine rescue and technical rescue services and responds to over 2500 calls annually.

Job Description

Part-time Firefighter/EMT's work 12 or 24 hour shifts in regularly scheduled or "per diem" positions. There is no residency for these positions. The shifts are 24 hours (0700-0700) or 12 hours (0700-1900 or 1900-0700). Part-time Firefighters/EMT's work 120 hours per month. Additionally, Part-time employees working regular scheduled shifts receive benefits in accordance with the current IAFF contract.

Required Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.

  • US Citizenship

  • Highschool Graduate (or equivalent)

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with acceptable driving record.

  • Current IFSAC FF-I required; FF-II preferred.

  • One year of experience as a Firefighter/EMT preferred.

  • Washington State EMT certification. Candidates with NREMT certification will be considered, contingent on obtaining Washington State EMT certification.

  • Successful completion of the NWFR physical agility test.

  • Ability to pass a background check.

  • Pre-hire physical and drug screen.
