Protect Your Home from Outdoor Fires

Outdoor Fires and Wildfires are a potential risk to our homes, please read North Whidbey Fire and Rescue's suggestions on how to protect your home from these potential risks.

Is my home at risk for outdoor fires?

Yes, there is a risk for outdoor/wildfires here on Whidbey Island. Last year North Whidbey Fire and Rescue responded to 30 outdoor fires (I.E: Natural vegetation, Wildland, Brush and Grass fires).

How can I protect my home from outdoor fires?

There are several ways that you can protect your from potential outdoor fires. Several ways that you can protect your home are:

  • ​Regularly clean your roof and gutters from any debris

  • Remove any flammable vegetation within 30 feet around your home

    • Use non-flammable materials such as concrete, gravel, or brick around your home. These materials will help provide a defensible space to help protect your home.​
